Dear Members of the Vedic Astrological Community,

The Council of Vedic Astrology has unanimously agreed to resume the establishment of certification standards of Vedic astrologers that the council started under the direction of David Frawley, then President of the council in 1993.

The new CVA certification standards will be a resumption of the original council based tutor led model, in which students tutor with an approved CVA certified teacher of their choice, to acquire the necessary hours CVA certification.

The CVA has unanimously agreed to initiate a grandfathering process for all current CVA approved teachers and teacher/tutors, and ACVA certified members who wish to apply for the new CVA titles of Jyotish Visharada and Jyotish Kovid.

All CVA approved teachers, teacher/tutors, and ACVA certified members who are listed on the CVA tutors page on the CVA website are eligible to apply. You must be a current professional member ($95.00) of CVA to be grandfathered, so now is a good time to pay your dues, or upgrade to professional membership so you can be grandfathered in.

All CVA approved teachers and ACVA Level I certificate holders qualify for the CVA Jyotish Visharada. Grandfathering fee for the CVA Diploma is $108.00 with current CVA membership. This is a one time fee only.

All CVA approved teacher/tutors, and ACVA Level II certificate holders qualify for both the CVA Jyotish Visharada and the CVA Jyotish Kovid. Package Price is $208.00 for Diplomas with current CVA membership. This is a one time fee only.

Grandfathering will be open to all of the aforesaid members of our community for six months. Members of the CVA Certification Committee will be contacting you regarding the grandfathering process.

CVA has developed the Jyotish Visharada and later the Jyotish Kovid CVA certification exams that set the standards for CVA certification under the direction Dr. David Frawely, Chair of the Certification Committee and Chakrapani Ullal, Signatory of the CVA Certification Committee, and the CVA Certification Committee members of Dennis Flaherty, Sat Siri Khalsa, Ken Miller and Susie Patterson.

All hours acquired by students who have tutored with CVA approved tutors will be recognized by the CVA in the grandfathering process, provided their tutor is grandfathered with the new CVA certifications of Jyotish Visharada and Jyotish Kovid. Please request your tutor to apply for grandfathering with the CVA to remove any confusion about recognized hours of study in preparation for the CVA exams.

The CVA will offer the following exams in the near future:

  • Exam Fee to sit for the CVA Jyotish Visharada is $200
  • Exam Fee to sit for the CVA Jyotish Kovid is $300
